Work package 2: Large-scale industrial areas

Why we do it

Starting point of this work package is the experience that large-scale investors and transport-oriented industries have quite special needs. These needs are hard to meet by the standard land-use planning on municipal level.

What we want

The main objective of this work package is to elaborate and apply innovative land-use planning methods for special types of industrial use (e.g. large-scale industrial areas, logistic centres outside ports). We will

  • refine a planning method for large industrial areas, mainly based on results from the INTERREG project "South Baltic Arc",
  • select locations for large-scale industrial areas near medium-sized cities,
  • initiate intermunicipal planning processes and
  • transfer our new experiences to international arenas.

What we do

  • Further elaborate and adjust existing international planning standards and "best practices" in the South Baltic Arc region.
  • Develop at least 5 local planning principles / models and at least 2 pilot land-use plans.
  • Disseminate experiences gained in the project.

How we do it

The objectives will be achieved by activities like:

  • Seminars, international workshops, field trips, gain international expertise
  • Identification of pilot locations and implementation of pilot projects
  • Draft local planning principles and transferable recommendations for planning
